Royal Botanic Gardens

Visit Melbourne’s inner-city oasis. More than 8,500 plant species from around the world are presented in a kaleidoscope of colour and texture. Sweeping lawns, tranquil lakes and majestic trees are home to an amazing range of wildlife.

Melbourne Gardens extends over 38 hectares, with displays of more than 50,000 individual plants representing over 8,500 different species from every part of the globe – these are represented in 31 living plant collections.

With a children’s garden, wheelchair accessibility, cafes and beautiful spots for a picnic, there is something for everybody.

Opening Times

Open 7.30am to sunset every day of the year. Wheelchairs are available during Office hours 9am – 5pm daily.

Entry to Melbourne Gardens is free.

Located at Birdwood Avenue, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria at Melbourne Gardens is approximately two kilometres from Melbourne’s city centre.

Tram:
Routes 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 – Stop 19 Shrine of Remembrance/St Kilda Rd.

Bus:
Route 605 – Melbourne Observatory/Birdwood Avenue.
