The Great Ocean Road & The Otways

Experience one of the worlds most scenic coastal drives!

See the towering 12 Apostles (well eight actually), get up close to native wildlife, take in iconic surf breaks, pristine rainforests and misty waterfalls along the spectacular Great Ocean Road. Get outdoors on bushwalking, surfing and mountain-biking expeditions or take the cultural route through galleries, museums and heritage attractions. Feast on spectacular views and local produce along the way.

The Great Ocean Road

The official start of the Great Ocean Road is 103km from Melbourne CBD and will take approximately 1hr 17mins to get there by car. You can drive the entire Great Ocean Road & back in one (long) day from Melbourne, however one or two overnight stops would mean a more relaxing trip. There is a lot to see and enjoy along the way!

Alternatively, you can join a bus tour which will take the stress out of driving, leaving you free to enjoy the views as you travel this incredible coastal road.

Please visit the Official Great Ocean Road website for more inspiration.

The Otways Region

The Otways region is around 3 hours from Melbourne, but varies depending on what part of the region you are visiting.

Renowned for waterfalls, the striking cool temperate rainforest of the Great Otway National Park boasts one of the highest rainfalls in the state. Whether chilling-out or cooling-off, a waterfall makes for a stunning natural backdrop. On cooler days, especially after rain, watch the falls transform into a roaring curtain of water. And on a hot summer’s day, enjoy some shady respite through the sheltered forest to the water’s edge.

Boasting a mind-blowing collection of walking tracks and trails across amazingly diverse terrain, choose your landscape – cliff top, coastal, rainforest or bush trail or all four at once!

The Californian Redwoods

Located along the picturesque Aire Valley Road, close to the quaint town of Beech Forest, this is a delightful place to stop and enjoy a picnic or just a short stroll into the forest. The awe-inspiring Californian Redwoods (Sequoia trees), were planted alongside the river in 1939.

This unique forest is enchanting and is an experience that you will not forget.

TIP: You are only a few minutes drive to Hopetoun Falls, so try and allow time to check it out too!

Otway Fly Treetop Adventures

The Treetop Walk is a one hour rainforest walk experience, that is approximately two kilometres in total and features a 600 metre long and 30 metre high steel structured treetop canopy walkway, that takes you right into the treetops. It is the longest and tallest walkway of its type in the world and includes a thrilling cantilever.

The Zipline Eco-Tour is a two-and-a-half hour, fully guided experience including training and simulation, eight cloud stations, six flights and two suspension bridges. The ticket price also includes the world famous Treetop Walk. This is the only zipline tour in Victoria.

Less than three hours away from Melbourne (via Princes Highway inland route) and 90 minutes from Geelong (via Princes Highway) makes Otway Fly Treetop Adventures the ideal destination for a day trip. However to truly experience this great region, it is recommended that you stay and play longer in this spectacular part of the world.
